Pa. County Strikes $8M Deal Allowing Gas Drilling Under Park

Law360, Philadelphia (March 18, 2014, 3:09 PM EDT) -- A county in western Pennsylvania on Monday unveiled a nearly $8 million deal allowing Range Resources Corp. and Huntley & Huntley Inc. to drill for natural gas beneath a public park.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said that the deal negotiated by his administration guaranteed at least $7.7 million in new revenue in exchange for allowing the two energy companies to extract gas from below the nearly 1,200-acre Deer Lakes Park from drilling rigs located on adjacent parcels of privately owned property.
