Artist Prince, Photographer Cariou Settle Fair Use Feud

Law360, Los Angeles (March 18, 2014, 9:27 PM ET) -- Artist Richard Prince reached a settlement with photographer Patrick Cariou to put an end to a suit alleging Prince infringed Cariou's copyrights by using nearly unadulterated Cariou images in five artworks, according to filings in New York federal court Tuesday.

The dispute, which has drawn high-profile support for both sides, stems from Prince's series “Canal Zone,” which was displayed at New York's Gagosian Gallery in 2008. It included 30 paintings that collaged, enlarged, cropped, tinted or overpainted images taken from Cariou's photography book “Yes, Rasta.”...
