Dueling Seismology Patents Spur Lawsuit

Law360, New York (April 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Texas company that provides seismic analysis services to the petroleum industry has alleged that geopressure detection technology disclosed in a patent owned by Australia's national science agency overlaps claims in its own earlier patent.

Houston-based eSeis Inc. filed suit against Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization Tuesday, asking the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas to declare that the implementation of the CSIRO patent in the U.S. would constitute infringement of eSeis's patent.
