FTC Urged To Probe Health E-Records Over Antitrust Concerns

Law360, Washington (March 20, 2014, 8:15 PM EDT) -- Several health care industry stakeholders urged the Federal Trade Commission on Thursday to investigate whether the growing use of electronic health records was making it easier for hospitals and health tech companies to improperly limit competition.

During an FTC forum focusing on health care competition issues, industry participants claimed EHR systems operators have placed clear obstacles in hospitals' and physicians' way to prevent them from sharing patient information with nonclient providers, and those barriers could spark antitrust concerns.
