Saline Shortage Demands Faster Fix, Hospitals Tell FDA

Law360, Washington (March 21, 2014, 7:43 PM EDT) -- The American Hospital Association on Thursday urged the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to work faster in resolving a nationwide shortage of saline and other intravenous fluids in the country's hospitals, saying patient care would suffer without a quick fix.

In a letter to the agency, AHA executive vice president Rick Pollack said the FDA needs to “vigorously pursue” strategies to end the saline shortage announced by the agency in January.
