Duke Health Settles FCA Suit For $1M

Law360, New York (March 24, 2014, 8:37 PM EDT) -- Duke University Health System reached a $1 million settlement Friday with federal and North Carolina prosecutors over allegations it submitted false claims to federal health care programs, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The settlement puts to rest claims that Duke violated the federal and North Carolina False Claims Act by billing Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare for unqualified services and charging higher rates by unbundling certain services. Duke denies the FCA violations and said in a statement that a software glitch was partly to blame.
