Advanced Medical Optics Sues Alcon Over Medical Device Patents

Law360, New York (December 3, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- Medical equipment maker Advanced Medical Optics filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware against rival Alcon and Alcon Laboratories for infringement of patents for technologies used in eye surgery, AMO said Wednesday.

AMO claims that Alcon's phacoemulsification systems, marketed under the names "Infiniti" and "Series 20000 Legacy," infringe patents that cover advanced fluidics technologies that facilitate removal of cataracts during eye surgery and are incorporated in AMO's Sovereign and Sovereign Compact phacoemulsification systems.
