Judge Blocks BP From Accessing Settlement Claims Data

Law360, New York (March 26, 2014, 4:46 PM EDT) -- The Louisiana federal judge overseeing the multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on Tuesday blocked BP PLC and plaintiffs’ lawyers from reviewing pending claims in the $9.2 billion settlement with victims of the spill.

The plaintiffs lawyers’ had argued that BP wants to use the data to back out of paying certain claimants, but BP said the settlement agreement grants both it and class counsel access to settlement program data.
