Google's $8.5M Privacy Pact Wins Initial Nod

Law360, Chicago (March 26, 2014, 7:32 PM ET) -- A California federal judge on Tuesday gave initial approval to the proposed $8.5 million settlement of a class action alleging Google Inc. illegally divulged search information, despite questions raised by privacy advocates about the nonprofit organizations chosen to receive the settlement funds.

U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila signed off on an order granting preliminary approval to the deal, and conditionally certifying a class of potentially more than a 100 million Google users.
