RE Rumor Mill: Bitcoin, Sawgrass Lake, Shoreline Square

By Kaitlin Ugolik (April 4, 2014, 6:22 PM EDT) -- Nick Spanos, co-founder of Bitcoin Center NYC, has reportedly completed the first real estate transaction in the country conducted entirely with the virtual currency. Crain's reported that Spanos, whose organization promotes the use of bitcoin and who is head of real estate brokerage Bapple, accepted nearly $18,000 in rent from a tenant at the end of March. Bapple broker Jeff Goolsby told Crain's that the tenant saved money by avoiding check and wire transfer fees, though that necessarily means less of a "tangible benefit" for the broker. The tenant is connected to a tech startup, and offered to pay in bitcoin after Bapple promoted the use of the currency, Crain's reported....
