Germany Tops Madrid Protocol List, U.S. Lands 3rd

Law360, New York (February 9, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- As international trademark applications skyrocketed over the past year, Germany took top honors again for the most applications filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization while the U.S. failed to live up to early predictions once more.

The WIPO announced the record-breaking results earlier this week, revealing that 33,565 applications had been filed in 2005 under the Madrid system for the international registration of trademarks.

The figures represent a 13.9% increase from last year, according to the agency.
