ITC To Investigate Toyota In Hybrid Patent Battle

Law360, New York (February 10, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission has agreed to open an investigation into a tiny electric engine maker’s claims that auto giant Toyota infringed its patented hybrid car technology.

The ITC announced the decision on Wednesday, nearly a month after Florida-based Solomon Technologies Inc. filed its original complaint.

Solomon Technologies is alleging infringement by Toyota Motor Corporation of its patented electricity-generating motor by hybrid transmissions. The alleged violations relate primarily to Toyota’s use of the technology in its Prius sedan and Highlander SUV.
