NLRB Will Review Northwestern Athletes' Ability To Unionize

Law360, New York (April 24, 2014, 6:12 PM ET) -- The National Labor Relations Board has decided to review a regional director’s landmark decision that Northwestern University football players receiving scholarships are “employees” and may unionize, saying Thursday that the finding raised substantial issues that warranted a second look.

In a one-paragraph order, the NLRB said it would review a March decision from Chicago-based regional director Peter Sung Ohr, who found that Northwestern's grant-in-aid scholarship players for the school's football team are “employees” under the National Labor Relations Act.
