Jury Awards ViaSat $283M In Satellite Patent Row

Law360, Los Angeles (April 24, 2014, 10:37 PM ET) -- A California federal jury on Thursday awarded ViaSat Inc. $283 million in damages after finding that Space Systems/Loral LLC infringed three of ViaSat's patents relating to satellite networking communications technology and breached the parties' contract.

Following two weeks of deliberations, a federal jury in San Diego found that SSL infringed ViaSat's U.S. Patent Nos. 8,107,875; 8,068,827; and 8,010,043, which relate to the ViaSat-1 high-capacity satellite system, according to ViaSat and court records.
