DOJ Grants Sale Of ArcelorMittal Steel Mill

Law360, New York (April 16, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has signed off on ArcelorMittal SA’s proposed sale of its steel mill to Russian steel manufacturer OAO Severstal, a move that resolves antitrust objections to the creation of the largest steel firm in the world.

The deal was approved Tuesday, clearing the way for Severstal to buy the Sparrows Point mill near Baltimore for $810 million in cash. The sale was overseen by a DOJ-appointed trustee.
