Mass. Gov. Allows Triple Damages Bill To Become Law

Law360, New York (April 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Massachusetts bill that mandates triple damages for employees who prevail in wage-and-hour suits became law Monday after the governor refused to either sign it or veto it.

The bill, known as “An Act Further Regulating Employee Compensation,” will make Massachusetts the only state in the nation with such a broad, automatic treble damages statute, according to Richard L. Alfred, the chair of Seyfarth Shaw LLP's national wage-and-hour litigation practice group.
