Obama Threatens Russia With Broader Sanctions

Law360, New York (May 02, 2014, 9:06 PM ET) -- President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday threatened new sanctions on broad areas of Russia’s economy if its activity in eastern Ukraine disrupts the nation’s May 25 presidential elections.

The two leaders made the announcement in a joint press conference in the White House Rose Garden, saying the sanctions could hit some of Russia’s biggest economic powerhouses, such as its energy sector and banking industries.
