9th Circ. Nixes Screenwriter's $750M IP Suit Against Fox

Law360, Los Angeles (May 2, 2014, 10:04 PM ET) -- The Ninth Circuit on Friday threw out a $750 million copyright suit alleging Twentieth Century Fox Corp. hacked apart a writer's screenplay and used pieces of it in movies such as “There’s Something About Mary,” “King Pin” and the television show “Unhitched,” saying such pieces were typical scenes that could appear in any work.
Stoddard White Jr. argued that U.S. District Judge S. James Otero erred in finding that Fox didn’t steal his screenplay for scenes in the films, according to court records. But the panel...
