Fed. Circ. Tosses $78.9M Verdict Against DirecTV

Law360, New York (April 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has upended a 2006 jury verdict awarding Finisar Corp. $78.9 million in damages in its patent infringement case against satellite TV company DirecTV Group Inc.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Friday remanded the case back to the lower court for a new trial. The appeals court vacated the district court's verdict of infringement, ruling that the district court “incorrectly construed a vital term featured prominently in each asserted claim.”
