N.J. Jury Awards $10.5M In Third Accutane Trial

Law360, New York (April 23, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Drugmaker Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. lost the third of potentially hundreds of trials over its controversial Accutane on Tuesday, when a New Jersey jury awarded $10.5 million to a woman who alleged the acne treatment caused her inflammatory bowel disease.

Plaintiffs attorney Pete Kaufman said the award is the largest so far in the three cases to go to trial since May last year and should serve as a warning to the Nutley, N.J.-based pharmaceutical company to reconsider its strategy to fight the lawsuits in court....
