EU Approves Oracle-BEA Deal

Law360, New York (April 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Oracle Corp. declared victory Tuesday in the war to complete its proposed $8.5 billion purchase of fellow software company BEA Systems Inc. following the European Commission's approval of the bid, which was initiated in October.

The merger of the two companies would not substantially harm competition in or within the European Economic Area, the commission said Tuesday.

Later on Tuesday, Oracle said that the merger offer was complete.
