AOL, Yahoo Hit With Suit Over Parental Controls

Law360, New York (May 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A company that makes Web-filtering software for schools and libraries has sued AOL and Yahoo Inc., alleging that the parental control features of both companies' Web sites infringe one of its patents.

Hauppauge, N.Y.-based Bascom Global Internet Service Inc. filed the suit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, claiming that both the parental control systems employed by both AOL and Yahoo infringe on a patent the company holds for filtering technology that uses a remote server.
