Union Wronged Universal Studios Unit Worker: Court

Law360, New York (May 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A union representing maintenance technicians employed by a Universal Studios subsidiary has engaged in an unfair labor practice by overcharging a nonmember for representational expenses, an appeals court ruled Monday.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld a finding by the National Labor Relations Board that Studio Transportation Drivers Local 399 violated the National Labor Relations Act in its calculation of fair share fees owed by Hyo Chol Lim, an employee of Universal Studios unit Hilltop Services.
