Price-Fixing Charges Loom For Dairy Co-Op: Report

Law360, New York (May 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Commodity Futures Exchange Commission is reportedly preparing charges against Dairy Farmers of America Inc., the world's largest dairy cooperative, for allegedly manipulating prices of cheese and milk.

The CFTC is examining whether the cooperative, which comprises about 18,000 dairy farmers, attempted to push the price of milk up through its trading of cheese contracts at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
