EU Commissioner Wants Research Reform

Law360, New York (March 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- European Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes will submit new rules involving state aid aimed at increasing research and development funding for smaller companies in an effort designed to encourage more competition across the continent.

“Free and fair competition in open markets means companies have to stay ahead of the game. They have to invest in research and turn it into new innovative and desirable products and services. Otherwise they will be overtaken by their rivals,” Kroes said, speaking at a business conference in Brussels.
