Tight Emissions Rule Planned For Duke's New Plant

Law360, New York (June 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The new coal-fired unit at Duke Energy Carolinas' Cliffside Steam Station will have to meet more stringent limits on air pollutants, including mercury, rather than looser standards in place when the project was originally approved, the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources said Monday.

The North Carolina Division of Air Quality said the future Cliffside facility must conform to a February appeals court ruling that requires the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to impose mercury emission limits on coal-fired power plants.
