7th Circ. Nixes Award In Suit Over Firefighter Exam

Law360, New York (June 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit has negated a victory for several black would-be firefighters who claimed the city of Chicago discriminated against them, finding that their claim was filed outside the statutory time frame.

The ruling by a three-judge panel could let the city off the hook for up to $100 million in damages awarded last year, although an attorney for the plaintiffs said he will ask the Seventh Circuit to review the decision en banc.
