Life Sciences Cos. Face More Shareholder Suits

Law360, New York (June 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Securities fraud cases filed against life sciences companies were up significantly in 2007 from the year before, with plaintiffs attorneys focusing on companies with the largest market capitalizations in the industry, according to a survey compiled by Dechert LLP.

The survey found life sciences companies, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies, were the target of 25 securities fraud cases in 2007, while only 16 securities fraud cases had been filed against companies in the same industry the year before.
