Technology Companies Form Wireless Patent Pool

Law360, New York (June 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Intel Corp., Cisco Systems Inc. and four other technology firms will form a patent pool to collectively license patents for WiMAX wireless technology more cost-effectively.

The companies said Monday that their planned Open Patent Alliance will promote the adoption and deployment of WiMAX products while limiting royalty and other costs.

The group, which also includes Alcatel-Lucent, Clearwire Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. and Sprint Nextel Corp., is rallying around the broadband wireless technology that provides “low-cost, multi-megabit speed and greater throughput for the mobile Internet era.”...
