Red Hat Ends Patent Suits With FireStar, DataTern

Law360, New York (June 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Open source software company Red Hat Inc. has settled two patent lawsuits brought against it by FireStar Software Inc. and DataTern Inc. over database technology, striking a licensing deal that it hopes will allow its customers to use the technology without threat of future lawsuits.

FireStar's suit, filed in 2006 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleged that an object-relational mapping tool called Hibernate infringed one of its patents. Hibernate is produced by JBoss, a company Red Hat acquired for $350...
