Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid Hit AmEx With Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (June 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- American Express Co. has been hit with lawsuits by Rite Aid Corp., CVS Pharmacy Inc. and Walgreen Co., which allege that rules imposed on merchants who accept the company's credit card violate federal antitrust laws.

The three major U.S. drugstore chains filed separate complaints Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, challenging the so-called anti-steering rules embedded in agreements with AmEx and its wholly owned subsidiary, American Express Travel Related Services Co.
