Lucent Sues Microsoft Over Xbox 360 Technology

Law360, New York (April 7, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Lucent Technologies Inc. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft Corp., accusing the computer giant of illegally using certain technology in its popular Xbox 360 video game console.

The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, said the Lucent technology is found in the Xbox’s built-in MPEG-2 decoding capability, according to a complaint.

Lucent uses the MPEG-2 for decoding and encoding video found on DVDs, according to John Skalko, a spokesperson for Lucent.
