American Greetings Sues Over Strawberry Shortcake

Law360, New York (June 27, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- American Greetings Corp. has sued DIC Entertainment Corp. for allegedly breaching a contract that allowed DIC to market the greeting-card giant's popular Strawberry Shortcake character.

The 2001 contract between the two companies gave DIC the rights to the Shortcake image, provided DIC didn't sell the interests in the character to a direct competitor of American Greetings.

American Greetings' June 26 suit claims that an upcoming merger between DIC and the Canadian company Cookie Jar Entertainment violates those terms.
