EU Eases State Aid Rules To Boost Certain Areas

Law360, New York (July 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a push to spur job creation, the European Commission adopted a regulation on Monday that will automatically approve aid measures that favor small and medium-size enterprises, research, employment and environmental protection.

The commission's General Block Exemption Regulation, set to go into effect in the coming weeks, will complement the State Aid Action Plan and Small Business Act passed in recent years by promoting economic development and simplifying the route to approving state aid in certain areas.
