Report Prompts U.K. To Rethink Biofuel Boom Policy

Law360, New York (July 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The United Kingdom government said on Monday that it would “proceed cautiously” with the introduction of biofuels, after a report warned that the alternative energy method could increase greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to rising food prices.

The Gallagher Review of biofuels, commissioned by the government, said that “current evidence suggests that the proposed EU biofuels target for 2020 of 10% by energy is unlikely to be met sustainably.”
