Medtronic Hits Kyphon With Patent Suit

Law360, New York (April 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Medical device maker Medtronic Inc. is charging Kyphon Inc., a maker of spinal fracture treatments, with infringing on four of its patents covering balloon dilation catheters and spinal disc spacing treatment.

Medtronic’s complaint, filed recently in the U.S. District Court in Northern California, seeks declaratory judgment that five Kyphon patents are inapplicable to Medtronic’s new device, Equestra, which treats spinal disorders without using a balloon.
