Competition Practice: Weil Gotshal

Law360, New York (July 09, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- While the economic downturn has discouraged some types of deal-making and left many transactional lawyers scrapping for clients, work has increased for Weil Gotshal and Manges LLP's antitrust lawyers, said Helene D. Jaffe and Steven A. Newborn, co-heads of the firm's global antitrust practice.

As private equity recedes, strategic buyouts are on the rise, resulting in more competition concerns, the lawyers said.

The pharmaceutical, medical devices and retail industries continue to be areas of constant activity, Jaffe noted.
