According to a recent study, the number of trademark applications filed in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (“PTO”) for marks that contain the term “green” more than doubled in just one year, from 1,100 in 2006 to more than 2,400 in 2007.[1] The instances of the terms “clean,” “eco,” and “environment” also rose dramatically last year.[2]
