Nortel Wins $20M In 'Gray Market' Phone Case

Law360, New York (July 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Nortel Networks Ltd. has secured a $20 million consent judgment against Alliance Telecom Inc. in a suit accusing Alliance of pirating Nortel phone software and selling unauthorized altered equipment.

Judge Sidney Fitzwater of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas signed off on the consent order on June 30, after Alliance agreed to it on June 16.

The suit, which Nortel filed in 2006, accused Alliance of copyright infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, misappropriation of product, unfair competition and tortious interference.
