Mattel Seeks Over $1B In Bratz Damages

Law360, New York (July 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Mattel is reportedly seeking over $1 billion in damages from the manufacturer of the popular Bratz dolls after a jury determined last week that the doll's inventor came up with the concept while under contract with Mattel.

The damages phase of the trial began Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

In his opening statement, Mattel attorney Bill Price said that Bratz manufacturer MGA Entertainment Inc. owes Mattel all the profits it has made from the dolls since 2001, Rueters reported....
