Calif. Adopts World's Strongest Ship Fuel Standard

Law360, New York (July 25, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California has enacted a strict new regulation forcing ships near the state's coastline to use cleaner fuel after a federal appeals court struck down a similar rule in February.

The new policy, passed by the California Air Resources Board Thursday, will force any oceangoing vessels sailing within 24 nautical miles of the shore to power their crafts with cleaner, lower-sulfur fuel.
