Whirlpool Sues To Modify Retirement Medical Benefits

Law360, New York (July 25, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Home appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corp. and its subsidiary Maytag Corp. have filed a lawsuit seeking a declaration that the company can alter its retiree medical benefits plan without violating the terms of an existing collective bargaining agreement or the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, names International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America and UAW Local 997 as defendants.
