Varian Settles With Resonant Over Radiotherapy Patent

Law360, New York (May 3, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Medical equipment maker Varian Medical Systems Inc. and Resonant Medical have arrived at a truce in their patent infringement disputes relating to radiotherapy products that help locate cancerous tumors, putting an end to a U.S. International Trade Commission lawsuit and a related federal suit.

Under the agreement, Montreal-based Resonant will offer Varian certain payments, and the companies will collaborate in an interoperability agreement to test the compatibility of a treatment console between Varian’s medical linear accelerators and Resonant’s Restitu ultrasound imaging device.
