Alaska Attacks DOI's Polar Bear Listing

Law360, New York (August 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The state of Alaska is seeking to overturn a U.S. Department of the Interior decision to list the polar bear as a threatened species, saying the listing will adversely impact such things as oil and gas exploration.

In a lawsuit filed Monday with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the state alleged that the Interior Department failed to adequately consider the polar bears' survival through prior warming periods, and that the species would not be decimated by sea-ice habitat loss.
