Expert Issues Dire Report On Drug Approval Process

Law360, New York (August 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A New Jersey sociologist has issued a dire report warning Americans about what he characterizes as serious dangers linked to the nation's current system of testing and approving new pharmaceuticals.

“Drug disasters are literally built into the current system of drug testing and approvals in the United States,” said Donald Light in a stark criticism of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Under the current system, black-box warnings, adverse reaction warnings and recalls are likely to increase in number and scale, he said.
