Louis Vuitton Wins Record Infringement Damages

Law360, New York (August 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Supreme Court of British Columbia on Thursday awarded Louis Vuitton Malletier SA a record-setting $19,000 per copyrighted clothing design infringed, ruling that a once-only nominal sum would not make up for willful counterfeiting.

Siding with Louis Vuitton, a subsidiary of LVMH, the Canadian high court found that 46353 B.C. Ltd., known as Wynnie Lee Fashion, had continuously, blatantly and willfully trampled the luxury clothing designer’s copyrights and trademarks for over six years.
