Deals Rumor Mill: Cablevision, General Electric, Simplex

By Benjamin Horney (May 13, 2015, 5:28 PM EDT) -- Cablevision Systems Corp. is pulling its $1 bid to buy the New York Daily News off the table, according to a late Tuesday report from Reuters, after determining that the newspaper's poor performance did not justify even a single-dollar offer. According to the report, the James Dolan-helmed cable giant will take itself out of the running before the deadline for second round bids comes next week. Rumors that Cablevision was going to make the 100-pennies proposal first popped up in March, with reports saying that the Daily News has been losing $30 million annually. There are other suitors for the paper, however, with reports naming New-York based grocery chain Gristedes and the owner of Capitol Hill Publishing Corp. as other potentially interested parties....
