Deals Rumor Mill: Avon, Advent, Standard Chartered

By Benjamin Horney (May 14, 2015, 3:55 PM EDT) -- Cosmetics company Avon Products Inc., which is rumored to be looking into a potential sale of its North American business, apparently received a sham takeover offer Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported. According to the report, the fraudulent bid was put forth by an entity dubbed PTG Capital Partners Ltd., which said in a securities filing that it had made an offer valuing Avon at $18.75 per share. Avon said no such offer existed, however, and went as far as to say it couldn't confirm whether PTG even exists, the report added. Previous reports have stated that Avon has a market capitalization of roughly $4.1 billion....
