Law360, New York (May 28, 2015, 12:22 PM EDT) -- New data strongly suggests operators will likely accelerate the refracking of previously, hydraulically fractured existing wellbores in unconventional shale gas plays, led by the Bakken and Eagle Ford formations, but also including the Permian Basin. Refracking can yield substantial recoverable reserve increases in wells that have been on production for as few as nine to 12 months. Such estimated ultimate recovery ("EUR") increases can boost company valuations at a fraction of the cost needed to delineate reserves by drilling and completing new wells. In addition, data shows that refracks can boost a well's output by a significant multiple, which pushes out the decline rate curve and increases near-term cashflow: a welcome prospect in today's lower crude price environment....
