Law360, New York (August 27, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- A federal judge has ruled that Suffolk County, N.Y., cannot be held responsible for the erosion of Southampton's sandy shores, in a suit that pitted town against county over the construction of beachfront groins and jetties.
Judge Brian M. Cogan in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York handed down the order Tuesday following a six-day bench trial, dismissing Southampton's case and a related case brought by a Sagaponack resident who made similar allegations against Suffolk County.
